Capabilities of the information system and characteristics of the organization, its work systems, its people, and its development and implementation methodologies together determine the extent to which that purpose is achieved.

What are your projections for this type of work or industry? Is it stable, growing, declining?
-Growing at a good steady pace.
What are typical salaries in this type of job, entry-level to experienced? What are the opportunities for career growth?
-Its not easy to move up. Starting salary can range from forty to fifty thousand a year.
What are the key trends or issues? New developments? Key challenges?
-There is always advances in technology so there is always new developments. A challenge is trying the keep up with all the changes. Within a company there are only so many positions. Advancement is based more upon need than performance. Its not a very "cutthroat" profession.

How important are specific credentials for entry or success?
-Very important. The more certifications you obtain, the more likely you’ll be hired.
When and how did you get involved in this work?
-Right out of school. The store I work for decided that they needed to sell online, so I spearheaded that and continued to manage all online sales.
What was your training and background? Is this typical for people in your position and in similar positions?
-I got my four year degree at BYU-I in CIT.

What’s a typical day like for you or someone in a similar position?
-Maintain network, troubleshoot problems. Work on ways to increase sales and make cites run better.
What do you like most about your work?
-Always new oppourtunites to learn. I learn more and more everyday.
What do you like least?
-Sometimes it's very stressful. It can be a pretty demanding job. There are flaws that always need to be fixed. Technology isn’t perfect.
What talents or skills do you think are the most crucial to success in this work?
-The ability to problem-solve. One needs to be able to adapt to new technology. Don’t get tired of learning.
What attitudes or values are important?
-Perseverance, patience, the ability to be positive.
How do you advance or get promoted in this type of work?
-Working hard and having a good relationships with all other co-workers is a big point, but I'd say that experience is the key point.

Knowing what you do now, would you approach this career (or job) in the same way? If not, what would you do differently, and why?
- I would've taken marketing courses, because they didn't apply to what i went into.
Would my background be appropriate for this type of work?
-There are certifications for many different areas, some of them are: Web design, Database, and Programming. Depending on what exact field you are interested in and willing to work for.

-He is the department chair of the CIT program at BYU-I his name is Art Erickson.
What would you recommend I do if I want to go into this type of work?
-Get as many certifications as you can for the area that you are most interested in. Get a BS from a four year school.
